Disabled london fashion showLondon is embracing models of all types. And it’s nice to see they’re welcoming disabled models. The UK hosted two disabled fashion shows during the month of October. Hammersmith and Fulham Action on Disability, HAFAD, put together a show on the 22nd called Fashion with Passion and featured designers and models, including disabled ones. According to the HAFAD site, several brands and celebrities will be involved in the show: “The many fabulous brands involved include Full Circle, Asos.com, La Mack London, Clan Douglas Cashmere Studio, Yuko Yoshitaki, John Smedley, Laura Fox, Wheelie Chix-Chic and Glam Sticks. We have the support of David Proud who plays Adam Best in Eastenders and Kelly Marie Stewart who plays Hayley Ramsay in Hollyoaks will both model for the show.” Then on October 25th, London fashion show Disabled & Sexy, featured their own show in support of spinal muscular atrophy awareness. The goal behind the show is that “people with even the most severe of disabilities can follow fashion, display individuality, and have sex appeal just as much as anybody else.” Article by CocoPerez *     *      *      *      *      *      *      *      *      *      *      *       *       *      *      *      *      *      * I was very happy to have found this article – I think this is wonderful and touching. People with disabilities are neglected by fashion and many other outlets that able-bodied people take for granted every day. Disabled people are nearly non-existent in advertisements, movies, television shows – the list could go on. I am so glad that London has decided to host fashion shows that focus on such a highly under-represented demographic. There may not be too many people that are disabled in the world, but I know that this will mean the world to those people.
