Rapper Loses Endorsement Over Lyric

Rapper Rick Ross landed himself into some hot water when the single U.O.E.N.O was released. The track in question contains the lyric: “Put molly all in her champagne/she ain’t even know it/I took her home and I enjoyed that/she ain’t even know it.” Ross attempted to apologize when people stated their outrage over the lyric by saying in a tweet, “I don’t condone rape. Apologies for the #lyric interpreted as rape. #BOSS.” Give me a break. Ross knew exactly what he was saying with the words he used and whether he wants to admit it or not by making the act of date rape a light situation he is also condoning it. What he says isn’t even an apology either. By saying that it was your interpretation that makes the line offensive is disgusting. He then went on to apologize to Reebok his ex-sponsor and the Women’s group UltraViolet by saying “Apologies to my many business partners, who would never promote violence against women. @ReebokClassics @ultraviolet.” I think a lot of rappers don’t think they should be held responsible for having an impact on young males. They glorify violence, violence towards women, jail, gang mentality, drinking, and drugs. Ross’ half-assed attempt at apologizing just goes to show how much he really cares. Ross only apologized after an out pour of dislike for the lyric and after UltraViolet announced they were going to protest in front of a NY Reebok store. Thankfully Reebok made the right decision to drop Rick Ross from their campaign and made the statement: “Reebok holds our partners to a high standard, and we expect them to live up to the values of our brand. Unfortunately, Rick Ross has failed to do so. While we do not believe that Rick Ross condones sexual assault, we are very disappointed he has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse.”
