kate-winsletOscar-winning actress Kate Winslet is known for being curvy in a good way … even (gasp!) normal in a town full of stick-thin women. The 35-year-old Brit distinctly recalls what it was like to be pudgy when she was younger. “I will tell you that when I was heavy, people would say to me — and it was such a backhanded compliment — they would say, ‘You’ve got such a beautiful face,’ in the way of, like, ‘Oh, isn’t it a shame that from the neck down you’re questionable.'” The star of HBO’s upcoming mini-series “Mildred Pierce” opens up about how she’s over all the talk about her now hot bod, and reveals why she’ll never have plastic surgery. She’s apparently so confident in her current skin that she demanded an apology after British GQ airbrushed her to appear thinner back in 2003. “No, I have never tried [plastic surgery]…. I don’t have parts of my body that I hate or would like to trade for somebody else’s or wish I could surgically adjust into some fantasy version of what they are.” In fact, Kate’s fave characters to play are not-so-beautiful women, like Hanna in the “The Reader,” for which she won the Academy Award. “It’s my chance to challenge myself to the fullest, which is one of the great joys about this job…. I love it when a character requires me to look less than my red-carpet best. It’s more fun playing a character that requires you to look like dog s–t.” And while most women like to show they’ve still got “it” after giving birth, Kate obviously doesn’t worry about that either. Instead, she focuses on the present with her two kids, 10-year-old Mia, from her first former hubby, director Jim Threapleton, and 7-year-old Joe, from her second former husband, director Sam Mendes.
