As you may have read in earlier posts over the weekend, I spent my Sunday catching up on some good shit. Meaning – eating disorder, labiaplasty and beauty/fashion industry documentaries and films. I was just about to write about “Labiaplasty Hungry Beast” when our Beutiful Magazine newsletter recipe contributor Helen Tiller (creator of Sans Tomato) told me about the documentary “America the Beautiful.” I’m fortunate enough to live with this woman, so we watched it together.

Time to head to the store to get a push-up bra and some make-up for your 8 year-old. Wait…what? That’s right. According to the latest trends in beauty and fashion, push-up bras and anti-aging makeup are being marketed to tweens. Apparently, 8-12-year-olds should start looking and acting like adults. What is wrong with this picture? As the mom of three girls, I say absolutely everything is wrong with this. Should kids be wearing real makeup and push-up bras?
Beauty trends throughout the decades
We all know that beauty has changed a lot over the years. I have always had the theory that most people are beautiful, but some of us were just born in the wrong era for our looks. The truth is, styles and body types come and go in and out of style and we are lucky if we are living in a time where our style happens to be in.
