Angelina Jolie recently wrote an article for the NY Times about her choice to have a preventive double mastectomy. Jolie secretly had the mastectomy and reconstructive surgery after learning she carried a defective gene that gave her an 87% change of having breast cancer and a 50% chance of having ovarian cancer, the same disease her mother had died from.
