Kwame Harris, a former San Francisco 49ers football player, came out as a gay man publicly today. Harris said he remained private about his sexuality because he was afraid it would hurt his athletic career. Amy Pascal, Sony co-chairman, was honored at the LA Gay and Lesbian Center Gala recently and gave an amazing speech asking Hollywood to stop stereotyping LGBT characters in film and television. Amy’s speech is beautiful and very inspiring. She makes a very good point about how LGBT characters are represented in Hollywood, whether it’s stereotyping or misrepresentation. Girls wear dresses and boys wear suits
Sultana High school in California is prohibiting the LGBTQ students from expressing themselves openly in yearbook photos and at prom. That isn’t where the discrimination stops either, LGBTQ students say they have been bullied by teachers and students, with nothing being done. Things changed for the students once they established a Gay Straight Alliance Club at the school. Kyle Bodda, club president, said that it’s wrong to prevent the students from being who they are. Father accepts son for who he is
The Facebook page for FCKH8.com received an amazing letter from a poster named Nate. The letter was from Nate’s father, who admitted he overheard his son’s phone call with his boyfriend about coming out to his parents. Nate’s father tells him that they knew he was gay and that they love him regardless. It’s such a touching story to hear since so many people are still afraid to come out or are shunned by their families after they do. I hope that one day parents will be more accepting of…
Colorado Legislature OKs civil unions for gay couples
Great things happening in Colorado: legislation creating legal recognition and protection for couples (regardless of gender) was approved yesterday and is expected to be signed by the governor. It is so important that while there is so much controversy in regards to the subject of religion and gay marriage, that marriage is very much a legal matter and everyone should have these rights.
