Victoria’s Secret’s creates line for young girls

Victoria’s Secret’s has a line of underwear coming out that is marketed to young teens. The ads feature young models walking on the beach and playing in the ocean, spring break style. A lot of people are complaining that the ads and underwear are responsible for sexualizing young teens. According to a Victoria’s Secret executive, the line is for young girls who want to be cool and older like college girls. It’s really not shocking to hear that teens want to be like mature women and wear the clothes that…

One black model is enough

Chanel Iman is a young, beautiful, and successful model, you’ve probably seen her on magazine covers or Victoria Secret runway. Unfortunately, she still faces some racial set backs in her career. Recently in an interview she admitted that designers haven’t hired her because they already had “one of her kind” on the runway. It’s not too hard to believe, with the recent fashion week runways being labeled as “white outs” and Iman herself only being the third African American model to appear on the cover of American Vogue, racial discrimination…

James Franco Dropped from Advertisements

I found this article by The Inquisitr about actor James Franco’s recent trip to SXSW, where he talks about advertisers dropping him because of his image. Magazine uses black face in fashion spread

This article makes me want to scream What Are They Thinking! The “great” minds over at Numéro Magazine thought that it would be a great idea to put a very white 16 year old model in black face. Obviously, Numéro didn’t read all the negative comments the received from the last photo shoot they did like this. Referring to a caucasian model portrayed in black face as an African Queen is just insanely offensive. Last time I checked there were tons of beautiful, sexy African American models available for this…

United Colors of Benetton Spring 2013 ad campaign: embracing diversity

I’m guilty of writing off high profile fashion companies because I don’t see much good being done in the industry and I believe that most companies are just propelling the same old unhealthy messages forward. However, United Colors of Benetton is one company I have really been paying attention to lately, since I discovered their UNHATE campaign. In their 2013 Spring ads, they are not only promoting racial diversity, but they are also using a transgender model as one of their nine strong international personalities. AND to top this, have…
