Alice “Nonie” Dubes (90) and Vivian Boyack (91) have been madly in love with each other for 72 years. On Saturday, these beautiful ladies got married. Seeing two people in love for so long and finally being able to legally marry brings so much joy to my heart.

The two women were married in First Christian Church in Davenport, IA and were surrounded by friends and family who have been witness to their decades-long romance.

Jerry Yeast, 73, who has known the women since she was 18 when she worked as their landscaper, said:

“I’ve known these two women all my life, and I can tell you, they are special… This is a very special day for all of us.” [source]

Dubes was a journalist and Bovack was a teacher when they first met in Yale, IA. In 1947, they move to Davenport together. In their years together, they’ve filled it with adventure and have traveled to every US state, every Canadian province and even England! In 2009, Iowa legalized gay marriage, making it the third in the nation to allow same-sex couples to marry. We’re thrilled for these two women and we hope they have several more years ahead to enjoy their union!
