Employee with Asperger’s Humiliated by Customer

Chris Tuttle, a 28 year old man who has Asperger’s syndrome, was humiliated by a customer at the Wegamns he works at. The customer berated Tuttle for not scanning his items fast enough and even complained to a manager while Chris was visibly upset with tears running down his face. After hearing Chris’ story, his sister Jamie reached out to her friends on Facebook about the situation in hopes that they would help build up his spirits. Little did Jamie know, the story would become an internet sensation. By the time Jamie had re-checked her Facebook, 100,000 people had liked her post and 15,000 people had left wonderfully touching comments from people in South Africa and Australia. Chris went through each comment and appreciated each message of support. Chris return to work the following day and was met with an overwhelming response. Customers waited in Chris’ line even when other registers were open just to shake his hand and hug him. It’s wonderful to hear that this story had such a positive ending with people coming together to make Chris Tuttle feel better. I think it’s absolutely disgusting that just because this customer was in a rush she felt the need to belittle a person’s abilities. Even when Chris began to cry, the customer continued to lay into him. I’ve got a muscle disease that forces me to move slower. There have been times when I’ve been out shopping and people have bumped and pushed me (and haven’t apologized for it) because they were in such a rush. People need to slow down and not take their frustration out on others.
