Why does Adele's weight define her?

The Huffington Post Live interviewed Joan Rivers and the subject of Adele and her weight came up once again. Rivers has previously joked about Adele by saying “Congratulations to Adele on the birth of her 68 pound 8 ounces bouncing baby boy. Ouch!” and “What is her song? Rolling in the deep? She should add fried chicken! My throat, my throat, I don’t know if I can swallow! I said, ‘Oh, yeah — you can swallow.” Now Rivers is at it again by joking that she took an ad out on Adele’s rear saying she was sorry but had much more room for other ads. Joan goes on to defend her jokes by saying that they aren’t mean and that if Adele doesn’t like them she should calm down, lose weight, and be happy with her riches. The constant joking about Adele’s weight is bullying, plain and simple. It’s childish. Joan Rivers has people write jokes for her and if this is the best they can come up with for an overweight singer, it’s pathetic. I really wonder if anyone finds it funny at this point, besides her malicious co-hosts on Fashion Police. Why does Joan feel the need to be so mean-spirited to Adele? I think it’s jealousy. I think she’s angry that a strong, curvy woman can be so successful. I think Rivers believes that women like Adele have no place in the entertainment business because they don’t fit a certain beauty standard. To back up my claim I have a story to share. My Aunt and mother have never really gotten along. When my mother, a plus size women, started to date my father, a fitness enthusiast, my Aunt told my mom that he’d never marry her because she was “fat”. When my parents got married my Aunt was very jealous and would tell my mom that my father would leave her for a thin woman because she was too “fat” for him. I am also curvy and am currently engaged to my fiance who is fit. I could tell that my Aunt wasn’t genuinely happy for me when I got engaged. She even complained to me how my ring wasn’t big enough, even though it was what I wanted. Some people just don’t think that people of a certain weight deserve happiness or success, which is just really sad. Personally, I love Adele and think she is gorgeous and incredibly talented. Everyone has different body types and we are all beautiful, even the people who are ugly on the inside.
