kimI will be the first to say that I’m not a fan of the Kardashian family and what they stand for. When I heard Kim Kardashian was pregnant, like the rest of the world, I was shocked. And even though I don’t like the family, I was very happy for her because having a child is such a wonderful moment in life. Even though you go through nine months of sickness, swelling, and aches it is the most beautiful outcome at the end. Pregnancy should be seen as a emotional journey to the next chapter of someone’s life, not as a woman getting fat or being unable to lose baby weight quick enough. Iconic supermodel Helena Christensen wrote an open letter defending Kim Kardashian and her impending pregnancy to the Huffington Post. The letter stated: “It is disgusting and despicable the way that certain media constantly harass the pregnant Kim Kardashian. It’s enough that they persistently project a negative focus on women’s physical shapes; but a public bullying and attacking of a pregnant woman because of her growing shape is just lower than low.” “Whatever else the tabloid-media feel a sick need to spew out of their venomous bowels, let that be their lame choice. But there should be some moral compass. It doesn’t matter who the woman is or what she does. No one should ever be publicly judged for their body, but to attack an expecting mother is sacrilegious and just plain wrong. A pregnant woman should not be criticized for her shape, period!!” What has happened in our culture? Why do magazines and blogs feel the need to ridicule pregnant celebs during or after their pregnancy. It’s always the same comments; look how fat they are, still hasn’t lost the baby weight, and pregnant and alone. Dealing with the changes of your body would be hard enough, but to also have to deal with the public bullying is just obscene. So who cares if celebrities get picked on for their pregnancies? We should because everything trickles down. It’s hard not to be effected by tabloid covers when we try to be as perfect as the women on them. Women see celebrities get ridiculed for weight gain, so in turn they try to minimize their weight gain. We see famous women lose weight so quickly after having a baby, that we then try to lose weight quickly. The important thing to always remember is the life growing inside of you, not wearing high heels and couture.
