Redefine The Definition of Beauty

The official definition of beauty is “the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.” But who was the person that decided a certain body type, race, or age determined someones beauty. No One! Everyone Is Beautiful! MAC Cosmetics has always been known for doing over the top ads for there collections and there new ad is no exception. MAC decided to redefine the definition of beauty by using professional female bodybuilder Jelena Abbou in their ads for a collection called “Strength”. I loved reading about Abbou being the new model and love that MAC went outside their comfort zone and picked such a stunning woman for their campaigns. Jelena looks absolutely gorgeous and insanely fierce in the ads. MAC Cosmetics is known for taking an unconventional stance on beauty by starring women who are not the typical feminine and girly models seen elsewhere in beauty ads. To promote their new “Strength” makeup collection, they’ve yet again chosen a woman who represents a type of beauty that’s usually looked over by conventional media. As shown on Styleite, the ad for the collection shows a fierce-looking Jelena Abbou, a Serbian bodybuilder, in a bodybuilding pose while wearing a black latex princess ball gown. For the ad, her black hair was pulled up into a tall bun. Her eyebrows were drawn dark and long. Matching her bold brows are her eyes, which were heavily lined with black eyeliner on both her upper and lower eyelids. The lines were drawn out a few extra inches, giving Jelena Abbou a more theatrical look. Dark blush was applied on her high cheekbones while dark red lipstick was used to coat her full lips. As can be guessed from the name of the collection and the ad photo, Strength includes lipsticks, lip pencils, eyeliners, and eye shadows in bold shades. There are also makeup brushes, a mascara, powder blushes, and nail polishes. Names of the individual products and shades, such as Inner Strength, All Woman, and Black Magique, are cheeky and fun. “Flex your femininity with a colour collection that’s fearless, elegant, and strong. Strike a powerful pose, stand out, redefine the notion of beauty—and do it with strength too irresistible to ignore,” is the collection’s slogan.
