Bro-tox: 300,000+ men got botox in 2011

Not to make light of the situation by making a cutesy name (Bro-tox, as ABC News is referring to botox for men), the amount of men that received cosmetic procedures has doubled in the last 15 years. Botox is the top request. In 2011, over 300,000 dudes got botox. ABC News claims that some women are buying botox vouchers as gifts for their husbands/boyfriends instead of electronics/gadgets/things you would usually buy men (offensive, much?). It seems that men are becoming more self/beauty-conscious in general – the sales of high end skin care products for men increased 12% last year. Skin care experts chalk this up to increased competition in the job market due to the recession. I’m not sure it has anything to do with the recession or unemployment. Of course, we want to look professional when we’re in the workplace but I believe that in general, men are being manipulated by the media more aggressively now – as women have been for decades.
