Melissa McCartheyThe more I know about Melissa McCarthy, the more in love I fall. I first developed a girl crush on her after watching her in “Bridemaids” (she was THE funniest). Then she did the CBS show “Mike & Molly” (which is a show about plus-size people) and won an Emmy for her performance. I just love her whole “I’m a big girl and I’m not going to apologize for it” attitude. Way sexy! But anyway, I just read that she created her own red carpet dress with the help of couture dressmaker Daniella Pearl. McCarthy told the Hollywood Reporter that she decided to custom-make a dress after none of the “9 million dresses with taffeta or shiny bows” she was presented with suited her style. Melissa McCarthy actually had wanted to be a fashion designer growing up, before she became an actress. “Trying to find stuff that’s still fashion-forward in my size is damn near impossible. It’s either for like a 98-year-old woman or a 14-year-old hooker, and there is nothing in the middle.” So, now she’s launching an entire clothing line for plus-size women. This news makes me sooooo happy. I love it when stars use their resources and talent to create things that are actually useful and help society. For example, Victoria Beckham has also recently created a fashion line that celebrates curves. Melissa McCarthy is the perfect woman to do this – she really brings the energy of a whole lot of girl power. A clothing collection that’s fashionable and goes above a size 14 is something the market could use. And Melissa completely embodies what it is to be confident and content with oneself. After having her second daughter, she is less concerned with comments about her appearance. “I just try not to give too much energy to it. At 20, I would have been like: ‘Don’t they like me? Was it my hair?’ At 41, I think the things that define me, I hope, are a lot more than those kinds of petty things.” Bravo.
