Inès de La Fressange and Jean Paul Gaultier

French fashion designer and former top model Ines de la Fressange presents a creation by French designer Jean-Paul Gaultier as part of his Spring-Summer Haute Couture 2009 fashion collection in Paris.

No woman wants to grow old. We dye our gray hairs and conceal wrinkles under makeup as an effort to hide the signs of aging. But instead of hiding or trying to fix indicators of maturity, French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier says we should be embracing our age, wrinkles and all. Gaultier believes that wrinkles make women look beautiful, and believes maturity is very becoming for females. “When middle-aged women dress too old, they start all looking the same. Dress as you feel, you are beautiful at your age,” Gaultier told the Times of London. Instead of dressing more demurely as you age, he says you should experiment with fashion even more. By feeling more comfortable with yourself, your confidence will radiate out towards others. Taking care of yourself, not hiding yourself, is key. Gaultier points to Dame Helen Mirren as a great role model to look up to. At 65, Helen is still a fashion icon who doesn’t shy away from a bikini, or even posing nude for a magazine. “She accepts the color of her hair, she accepts the changes and she does not change herself,” says Gaultier. Always a fearless trendsetter, Gaultier doesn’t just talk the talk. In 2009, he featured 51 year-old  Inès de la Fressange in his Spring-Summer Haute Couture show in Paris.  De la Fressange was Karl Langerfeld’s first muse at Chanel, and she proved that years can’t take away confidence and charisma. “I want to show that woman can love fashion like I do and have a normal job and enjoy taking care of themselves and their families,” La Fressange told Time magazine. “Women over 40 can be sexy, too.” “The wrinkles show who you are and how you are,” says Gaultier. “I think the attitude comes from inside; if the joy is there and you are curious and interested, then it keeps you young.” Remember that wrinkles only show that you’ve loved, laughed, cried, and lived.
