RainbowAt Beutiful Magazine, we believe in the freedom to be who we are and the freedom to love who we choose. In response to the string of recent suicides by gay teens, a girl named Brittany McMillan has created an event to hold a worldwide LGBTQ Spirit Day that’s spreading via the internet like wildfire. Posted and re-posted on blogs, Facebook and elsewhere, the announcement asks people to wear purple on Wednesday, October 20th in me…mory those who ended their lives after being bullied and harassed because of their gender or sexual identity. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Currently, there are millions of people around the world participating. Help us support this message! On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 6 gay boys who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes at their schools, as well as anyone else who is struggling with this kind of abuse. Please participate and show your support by wearing purple and posting a photo of yourself either on our event page, or on our facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/beutifulmag). Join this event and invite everyone on your friends list. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and schools. Don’t let these deaths be for nothing. Let it mean something, and let’s do something to change it. Rest in peace Tyler Clementi, Asher Brown, Seth Walsh, Justin Aaberg, Raymond Chase and Billy Lucas. Join our event here!
