Elena Miro fashion showWhile it seems that plus-size fashion and curvier, more realistic bodies have been on the rise of late (size 12 model Crystal Renn has starred in recent Chanel and Gaultier ads), the plus-size industry suffered a setback this week in Milan. According to Agency France Presse, the plus-size Elena Miro show, which has opened Milan Fashion Week for the past five years, was kicked off the official fashion week schedule this season. “Some labels just weren’t in line with what ready-to-wear week should be,” Mario Boselli, head of the Italian Chamber of Fashion, said of the new streamlined schedule that booted Miro and eleven other shows off the program. “We wanted to champion the values of creativity to reaffirm Milan’s role in the world.” Naturally, Elena Miro’s designer Elena Miroglio thinks otherwise. “[They said] the image of the brand [wasn’t high enough] to transmit Italian fashion worldwide,” says the designer, who still showed her collection at an off-site location, “but actually we don’t agree with that because we think that every kind of woman should be represented on the catwalk.” Miro let her curvy models make that point at the show, which was inspired by feminine ’50s silhouettes, including high-waisted bikinis, swing coats, and ladylike floral frocks. In other words, exactly what ready-to-wear should be. Article by Stylelist, referred by regular contributor Lauren Johnson.
